Six U.S. officials told The Washington Post that at least 22 service members have died in the Middle East during the Iran war — four more than the Pentagon's public count — and the Pentagon declined to explain the gap. Two organizations that help service members file as conscientious objectors say applications have spiked since the Iran war began — one is handling them at six times its normal rate, the highest in 25 years. Congress has never voted to authorize the war.
