Brandon Gill Runs a Whole Task Force to Fight 'DEI' — While His District Waits

Congress can hold hearings on almost anything: the cost of insulin, why groceries keep climbing, why rural hospitals are closing. Rep. Brandon Gill chose a different priority. He runs an entire congressional task force whose main job is to hunt down "DEI."

A task force built for the culture war

Gill, who represents Texas's 26th District, chairs the House Oversight Committee's "Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights and Exposing Institutional Abuses." That's a lot of official-sounding words for a simple mission: attacking diversity, equity, and inclusion programs wherever he can find them.

At a July 14 hearing, Gill didn't hold back. He called DEI "a disgusting and racist ideology… and a clear violation of the Constitution," and said it "has become a euphemism for Marxist ideology."

Now he's escalating. Gill has scheduled a new hearing — "The Future of DEI in Law School Accreditation and the Legal Profession" — and summoned the president of the American Bar Association to be questioned about how the group accredits law schools. His task force says it wants to figure out how "Congress can help permanently eliminate DEI policies within American institutions."

That's how Gill is spending the power voters gave him: policing what law schools teach and how bar associations operate.

What this actually accomplishes for TX-26

Nothing.

Denton County families aren't lying awake at night worrying about law-school accreditation standards. They're worried about the price of groceries, their health insurance, their kids' futures. None of that is helped one bit by a congressional show-hearing about "woke" bar associations.

This is theater. It generates cable-news clips and press releases. It lets Gill posture as a warrior against a boogeyman. But it doesn't lower a single bill, save a single job, or protect a single family in his district.

The pattern

Gill has made this kind of grievance politics his brand. He also signed on to the so-called "Sharia Free America Caucus", part of a broader pattern of targeting the things — and the people — that make for good outrage content.

Real representation is boring by comparison. It's constituent casework, it's fighting for local hospitals, it's showing up when a factory closes. It doesn't come with a viral clip of you calling something "disgusting" on camera.

Gill has clearly decided which kind of congressman he wants to be. His constituents are the ones left waiting while he runs his task force against diversity programs.

The bottom line

There is a whole task force, taxpayer-funded, with Brandon Gill at the head of it — and its purpose is to fight the culture war, not to make life better for anyone in Texas's 26th District. That's a choice. And it's the wrong one.
