86% of Americans want members of Congress to stop trading stocks while writing the laws that move the market. Instead of passing a real ban, Republicans built a fake bill designed to fail: it doesn't force anyone to sell their current shares, exempts the president and cabinet, and hands out tiny slap-on-the-wrist fines. Then they glued a massive voter suppression law to it to guarantee it died, and Republican Congressman Thomas Massie admitted it was cheap political theater engineered to kill a clean, bipartisan ban.
