3 Things to Know About David Joyce

David Joyce has represented Ohio's 14th District since 2013. That's 13 years in Congress — plenty of time to judge whose side he's on. The answer, again and again, turns out to be the people at the top.

Here are 3 things to know.

1. He voted to take health care away from hundreds of thousands of Ohioans

Everyone deserves to see a doctor when they're sick without going broke. David Joyce voted the other way.

He backed Trump's budget bill — the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" — which cut more than $1 trillion from health care and food assistance. For Ohio, that means real damage close to home. The state stands to lose about $33 billion in federal Medicaid funds over the next decade — money that keeps rural hospitals open and doctors working.

The result? An estimated 356,000 Ohioans are projected to lose their health coverage, on top of the 113,000 who already lost coverage when tax credits were allowed to expire. When you cut that many people off insurance, the rest of us pay more, too — fewer covered patients means higher premiums for everybody.

2. He cut taxes for the rich

Here's the trade-off that bill made. Those health care cuts didn't go to pay down the debt. They helped pay for tax cuts — and most of the benefit flowed straight to the top.

The math is blunt: $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts to fund $1 trillion in tax giveaways for the richest 1 percent. This in a country where the 400 wealthiest families pay a lower tax rate than a lot of teachers and nurses. Joyce voted to make that gap wider, taking from working families to give to the rich.

3. He works for powerful private interests

It's not a mystery why Joyce votes this way. Look at who funds him. His top donors include:

  • General Dynamics
  • Blackstone Group
  • Ernst & Young
  • Holland & Knight

These are giant defense, finance, and consulting firms — not the families of Ashtabula or Lake County. When the people writing your campaign checks are powerful corporations, it shows up in your votes. See for yourself at Who Bought My Rep.

The bottom line

That's 3 things to know about David Joyce. He voted to strip health coverage from hundreds of thousands of Ohioans, he cut taxes for the wealthiest among us, and he answers to deep-pocketed corporations.

Thirteen years in, the pattern is clear. We deserve better.
