On June 3, 2026 — two days into Pride Month — Mary Miller filed a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives.

It's called "Supporting the designation of June as Family Month." It runs about a page. And the operative section has three numbered parts, of which the second is four words long.

Resolved, That the House of Representatives— (1) recognizes the benefit of marriage and family to men, women, children, and society; (2) no longer recognizes Pride Month; and (3) supports the designation of Family Month for the purpose of rededicating our Nation to the importance of this essential unit.

The word she chose

Plenty of members of Congress promote the family. There is nothing remarkable about a resolution saying kids do well with parents who love them.

This isn't that resolution. The "whereas" clauses that lead up to those three items include this one:

"Whereas Americans are inundated with perverse Pride Month displays and events throughout the month of June that denigrate the nuclear family"

Perverse. That's the word, in a document submitted to the House of Representatives with her name on it.

It sits alongside a clause noting that Pride Month was first declared by President Bill Clinton in 1999 and continued by Presidents Obama and Biden — an act Miller's resolution describes as "rejecting the importance of marriage and family."

So the argument being made is not that families deserve a month. It's that recognizing gay Americans is what's wrong with families.

What the resolution blames on the decline of marriage

The resolution's case builds like this: about half of marriages end in divorce, young people are delaying marriage, the birth rate has fallen below replacement, and tax and welfare policy penalizes getting married.

Then it gets to the payoff line:

"Whereas the decline of marriage and family has corresponded to a rise in crime, drug abuse, and other social ill"

And then:

"Whereas our survival as a country and civilization depends on the continuation of traditional marriage and family"

Read the chain the whole way through. Pride Month displays are "perverse." They "denigrate the nuclear family." The decline of the nuclear family causes crime and drug abuse. And our survival as a civilization is at stake.

Miller told the Daily Signal the same thing in her own voice: "Our survival as a country and civilization depends on the continuation of traditional marriage and family." She also said the traditional family "is the greatest obstacle to the Left's cultural agenda, which is why they have spent decades trying to redefine, weaken, and replace it."

Nothing in the resolution proposes to lower the cost of raising a child, expand child care, or address a single one of the economic pressures it lists as reasons people aren't getting married. It renames a month and withdraws recognition from a group of Americans.

Twenty-one cosponsors

Miller introduced the same resolution in 2025 and it went nowhere. She filed it again this June, and 21 other House Republicans put their names on it as original cosponsors.

It won't get a floor vote. That's not really the point of a resolution like this. The point is the record — a document in the congressional archive, with 22 members' names on it, asking the House of Representatives to put itself formally on record as no longer recognizing Pride Month.

This is a pattern with her, not a one-off

Miller has a documented habit of using her position to single people out.

In February 2025, while presiding over the House, she introduced Rep. Sarah McBride — the first openly transgender member of Congress — as "the gentleman from Delaware, Mr. McBride." Then she posted about it on X, bragging that she had "refused to deny biological reality" on the chamber floor.

In June 2025, after a Sikh granthi delivered the morning prayer in the House, she posted that it was "deeply troubling that a Sikh was allowed to lead prayer" there, adding that "America was founded as a Christian nation." An earlier version of her post had wrongly identified the man as Muslim. Both were deleted after bipartisan condemnation.

In January 2026, she joined the Sharia Free America Caucus, which the Council on American-Islamic Relations designated an anti-Muslim hate group — the first congressional caucus in the organization's 32-year history to get that label. We traced where that panic actually came from.

The Family Month resolution isn't a stray. It's the same move applied to a different group.

Meanwhile, in the 15th District

Miller's constituents in downstate Illinois have real problems, and she has been notably hard to find when they want to talk about them.

In March 2025, hundreds rallied outside her Mahomet office carrying signs that read "Where's Mary? 1,532 days in office, ZERO town halls." In February 2026, when constituents organized a "Takin' the Town Hall to Mary" meet-up in a Quincy park, she declined to respond to the invitation — so the roughly 40 people who showed up talked to her two primary opponents instead.

She had time to write a resolution about a month.
